Ioannis GlavasIoannis P. Glavas, M.D., is a board certified surgeon who has been trained both as an eye plastic surgeon (oculoplastic surgeon) and as a facial cosmetic surgeon. He is one of the few oculoplastic surgeons with dedicated training in aesthetic plastic surgery and non surgical cosmetic technique. In his years of experience Dr Glavas has developed a multidisciplinary approach to facial rejuvenation. His techniques give emphasis to quick recovery and natural appearance

Dr. Ioannis Glavas practiced in New York City before relocating his practice in Massachusetts. He was the first oculoplastic surgeon to move away from the “cookie cutter” or older standard approach for blepharoplasty and the rejuvenation of the eyelids and face. He has been using different techniques and tools for surgery depending on the individual patient’s needs and tissue characteristics. His armamentarium includes Lasers, radiofrequency or cold knife surgery in addition to chemical peels, laser or light treatments for a unique intensified aesthetic result. He has developed the novel “horizontal evaluation for the face”. This unique evaluation provides clues as to the most effective treatments and anatomic areas to be addressed first. This preserves healthy tissue and avoids unnecessary trauma and scars.

Dr. Glavas is the first physician in New England to perform eyelash transplants and the first surgeon to use innovative suture-less techniques for surgery and sutures that don’t require knots. Dr Glavas is the only oculoplastic surgeon in the New England that is member of the AAFPRS, and AACS.

Dr. Glavas maintains an academic appointment with NYU School of Medicine and a faculty position in the oculoplastic clinic of Manhattan Eye Ear & Throat Hospital. He is staff at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston. Dr Glavas is board certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Board of Medical Specialties. He is member of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) and American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS) and Fellow of the American college of Surgeons. He also belongs to the European Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons.

After devoting three years in medical research at Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston, Dr. Glavas went for his internship in Surgery at Baystate Medical Center, a Tufts Medical School hospital. Then he continued his training by attending the internationally known Lancaster Course in Ophthalmology and at the same year working at the New England Eye Center of Tufts Medical School. Dr Glavas moved to New York City for his residency in ophthalmology at NYU and the prestigious Manhattan Eye Ear & Throat Hospital. He was named chief resident of the clinic and the teaching program. After residency he obtained one year of aesthetic plastic surgery training and laser facial rejuvenation at the same institution while working at a plastic surgery practice on Park Avenue in the upper east side of Manhattan. He completed his training in ophthalmic plastic surgery at the New England Eye Center of Tufts Medical School.

Dr Glavas has published several manuscripts and chapters in peer reviewed scientific journals, books as well newspapers and magazines. He was mentioned in the special issue of the Sunday Boston Globe as an expert in cosmetic eyelid surgery. He received an award for presenting one of the best research posters by the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr Glavas maintains teaching courses for medical doctors at major international meetings and smaller focus groups in NYC and Massachusetts. He has been invited speaker in several professional and commercial events through out the world. Dr. Glavas has been reviewer for major scientific journals and made appearances on TV and local radio.  In his spare time, Dr. Glavas enjoys spending time with his family. He is passionate about photography and sailing.
