Our DOCTORS
Dr. Jonathan H. Talamo's clinical team includes Dr. Kathryn M. Hatch, Dr. Karen L. Zar and a group of experienced, talented, caring office and operating room personnel whose principal goal is to make your visit with us as informative, pleasant and as stress-free as possible.
Thank you for choosing Talamo Laser Eye Consultants for your contact lens needs. We work hard to ensure you are fit with the proper lens prescription to meet your lifestyle needs. If this is your first visit to our office, or if it has been over a year since your last eye exam, we will require that you have a complete eye exam. In addition, you will need a contact lens fitting if you are a first time wearer, or an update fitting if you are a current wearer.
The contact lens fitting process includes determining the optimum lens power and the size of lens that fits the eye best. Follow up care is important to ensure that the lenses continue to be well tolerated. Since insurance companies deem contact lenses to be a cosmetic form of vision correction, typically they will not cover theses sevices. The cost of contacts are also not a covered service.
Below you will find a summary of different lens types available. If the information provided does not answer all your questions, please feel free to contact our office at 781-890-1023.
SOFT CONTACTS: There are many soft lens options. They range from lenses worn only once and discarded to lenses that can be worn continuously for up to 1 month. Depending on how often you plan on using contacts, we will help you choose the best lens modality. Your lens selection may also be determined by your prescription. Some patients require astigmatic lenses called toric lenses, while some patients have very dry eyes and require a silicone hydrogel lens.
RIGID GAS PERMEABLE CONTACTS: These lenses are also referred to as "hard" lenses. Many patients choose this type when they haven't been able to achieve acceptably sharp vison with a soft lens. These lenses are custom made to fit your eye and do require a few more office visits to ensure the proper fit.
SPECIALTY CONTACTS: These are lenses that can vary from rigid gas permeable to the newest in hybrid technology. Hybrid lenses are a rigid gas permeable lens encased in a soft lens. This type of lens gives the optics of a hard lens with the comfort of a soft. Many specialty lenses are used to treat medical conditions such as Keratoconus, post-corneal transplantation, and various other conditions that cause corneal irregularities. Lenses used to treat medical conditions may be covered through your medical insurance. We advise you to call in advance and ask your insurance carrier if contacts will be covered.
